Global LED Lighting Market Outlook 2026: From Price Competition to Value-Driven Growth

The global LED lighting industry is navigating a period of adjustment. According to TrendForce’s latest 2026 Global LED Lighting Market Trend – Data Bank and Manufacturer Strategies (2H26) report, demand remains subdued in the short term due to slow macroeconomic recovery, geopolitical tensions, and conservative corporate capital spending. Growth momentum in the three core markets—Europe, the US, and China—remains limited.

Yet beneath this cautious surface, a structural shift is underway. Driven by energy efficiency regulations, retrofit programs, and net-zero ESG commitments, lighting manufacturers are accelerating their move away from traditional price competition toward high-value segments such as smart lighting and specialized professional applications. The industry is transitioning from “volume expansion” to “product structure and application value upgrade.”

TrendForce forecasts that the global LED general lighting market will reach USD 60.942 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 2.6% from 2025 to 2030.

1. Long-Term Upgrade Momentum Intact, Emerging Markets Show Vitality

In the short term, the three core markets—Europe, the US, and China—remain weighed down by weak commercial real estate and low capital expenditure. In contrast, Japan is expected to see LED replacement demand released due to office space renewals, industrial applications, and the nationwide ban on fluorescent lamps by the end of 2027. Emerging markets in Southeast Asia and Latin America offer higher long-term potential, supported by infrastructure expansion and manufacturing relocation.

As price competition moderates and demand for smart lighting and energy-efficient retrofits grows, the market is expected to return to stable growth.

From an application perspective:

  • Outdoor sports lighting is benefiting from new venue construction and smart upgrades.

  • Commercial lighting is driven by professional scenarios such as education, healthcare, and retail centers, increasing demand for high-CRI and smart dimming systems.

  • Industrial lighting maintains steady demand, supported by manufacturing expansion, logistics automation, and data center construction.

With energy efficiency policies and ESG carbon reduction targets continuing to advance, professional lighting demand is expected to outperform general consumer lighting products.

2. Smart Lighting Accelerates, Industrial Applications Lead

Smart lighting is becoming the core engine driving industry value upgrade. Driven by IoT integration, smart buildings, carbon management, and AI dimming technologies, lighting products are accelerating their evolution from light sources to integrated light, control, and data systems.

TrendForce notes that competition logic has expanded from traditional specifications such as luminous efficacy to circadian rhythm, scene experience, energy management, and system integration capabilities. Manufacturers with software-hardware integration, ecosystem collaboration, and scenario-based application understanding will gain an advantage in the next phase of smart lighting competition.

TrendForce forecasts that the global smart LED lighting market will reach USD 21.387 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 13.2% from 2025 to 2030. Among all application segments, industrial smart lighting is the fastest-growing, driven by automation and AI computing center construction.

3. Agricultural Lighting Upgrades, Greenhouse Demand as Core Driver

Based on food security and extreme climate challenges, plant lighting continues to advance toward high efficacy, precise spectrum, and smart control. TrendForce forecasts that the global plant lighting market will reach USD 1.827 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 6.0% from 2025 to 2030. Greenhouse is the largest application, accounting for over 60% of output value.

Regionally, Europe and North America are accelerating the replacement of existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps with LEDs under energy cost pressure. Asia and the Middle East are mainly driven by new modern greenhouse construction. Technologically, the combination of multi-channel dynamic dimming and UVC plant surface sterilization modules is gradually being introduced into mid-to-high-end products, driving the upgrade of smart agricultural lighting solutions.

4. Leading Manufacturers Focus on “Specialization,” Competition Shifts to Systems and Platforms

Slowing global lighting demand has put pressure on large manufacturers’ revenue growth, but performance among different players has diverged significantly. According to TrendForce, the top 20 global lighting manufacturers generated total revenue of USD 23.425 billion in 2025. Signify, Acuity, Panasonic, LEDVANCE, and Zumtobel remain in the top five.

As scale effects diminish, the “specialization model”—focusing on high-barrier niche segments such as industrial explosion-proof, marine lighting, offshore energy lighting, defense and military lighting, and emergency lighting—demonstrates stronger risk resistance and profitability.

In terms of competitive strategy, leading manufacturers are gradually reducing dependence on pure product sales and enhancing product value through AIoT ecosystem integration, smart control, lighting system integration, energy management, and professional application solutions. At the same time, some manufacturers are actively reducing production and supply chain complexity through platform-based product design, SKU consolidation, and modular solutions, reshaping product lifecycle value and entering smart buildings, energy retrofits, and high-end professional lighting markets to increase system-level revenue and high-value-added projects.

5. LED Packaging: Price Competition Eases, High-Value Products Drive Structural Upgrade

As LED efficacy continues to improve and product standardization increases, the lighting LED packaging market still faces significant price competition pressure, and packaging manufacturers’ profit margins remain squeezed. In terms of product structure, mid-power packages such as 2835 LED remain mainstream for general lighting, supported by luminaire and bulb demand. Meanwhile, low-power packages are gradually being replaced by mid-to-high-power solutions, and the market structure continues to adjust.

Overall, the lighting LED packaging market is shifting from low-price, high-volume standardized products to mid-to-high-power, high-efficacy, and application-specific customized packages.

After sustained price competition and capacity consolidation, market supply and demand are gradually improving, and the average selling price (ASP) decline for lighting LED packages has notably narrowed. TrendForce forecasts that, with upstream material costs rebounding and high-spec product penetration increasing, the global lighting LED packaging market will steadily recover to USD 3.642 billion by 2030.

In terms of product upgrading, the penetration rate of high-value products such as high efficacy, high CRI (90+), full spectrum, and tunable color temperature continues to rise. Among them, the CRI 91–95 segment is expected to achieve a CAGR of 6.8% from 2025 to 2030.

Conclusion

The global LED lighting industry is in the midst of a value shift. While overall market growth remains moderate, the real opportunities lie in smart lighting, professional applications, high-CRI products, and system-level solutions. Manufacturers that can combine hardware, software, and application expertise—and focus on high-barrier specialized segments—will be best positioned for the next stage of competition.
